Soothing Throat Tea
This miracle herb, also known as Bell-flower or Balloon flower root, is indigenous to China, Japan, Korea and Siberia.
The healing effects of platycodon are derived from its volatile oil and other compounds, including saponins and plant sterols. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), platycodon (Jie Geng) has been used as an expectorant and to treat bronchitis, tonsillitis, sore throat and other respiratory conditions. Scientific tests have shown that the saponins may contain antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.*
Platycodon has been widely used in both medicine and culinary arts for many centuries in Asia, especially in Buddhist temple cuisine. Thanks to its purifying effect that is believed to be beneficial for Buddhist practice by clearing both mind and body. In Korea, it is considered as the most popular tea for teachers and professional singers to soothe and protect the throat and lungs.
In TCM, this herb is commonly used to treat various conditions to open and disseminate the Lung Qi, dispel phlegm and benefit the throat, with other herbs or alone. It is considered as one of the strongest and an "essential herb" when treating coughs, wheezing, sore throat, phlegm, and foreign sensation in throat.
The extracts and purified platycoside compounds (saponins) from the roots of Platycodon grandiflorum have exhibited neuroprotective, antimicrobial,, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-allergy, improved insulin resistance, and choesterol-lowering properties.*
When administered in the recommended dosage, there are no known health hazards in conjunction with platycodon. In addition, as of this writing, there are no known drug interactions with platycodon. However, it is highly recommended to consult with your health provider before taking platycodon supplements.

To Make Soothing Throat Tea:
Place a teabag in a cup; steep it with 8-10 oz of boiling water for 3-5 minutes.
For the maximized effect, boil a teabag in 12 oz of water for 5 minutes.
Suggested daily dosage:
1 teabag for preventative use, 2-3 teabags for mild-moderate symptoms of coughs, phlegm in the throat, sore throat, chest congestion, chronic bronchitis, postnasal drips, asthma, and other Lung related conditions.
